A Holistic Approach to Mental Health
Imbalances are responsible for physical and psychological illnesses. In the holistic view, all illness's have its origin when the spiritual and/or physical become imbalanced. However, order is inherent in disorder, making a return to health possible.
In a physical sense, food provides the nutrients used for energy. The endocrine system utilizes chemical messengers to coordinate various activities of the body parts. There is a certain amount of overlap with the nervous system, which utilizes neurotransmitter substances creating excitability or inhibition causing neurons to either fire or not. Together these provide the necessary chemicals that energize our spiritual lives. Spirit is energy fueled by the endocrine system. It is the spiritual force by which we live.
We have all experienced challenges in our lives. Physical injury’s Stressful situations and uncomfortable feelings that tax our mental/emotional well being and we often forget the essence of who we are.
It is helpful to get support from someone who is not in your personal life, someone who you feel safe with to explore the places in you where you are not loving your self. The places in you where you feel scared and vulnerable. We all have similar feelings of joy and sorrow, fear and anger, frustration and hoplessness, lonelyness and confusion.
As a Peer counselor, I can help you to see the challenges in your life in a new light and introduce you to innovative tools that can help you attain self awareness and overcome obstacles that get in the way of your happiness.
As a Peer Counselor, I have experienced life challenges and have learned skills to understand and move through these challenges. Peer Counselors are educated to facilitate self empowerment so that you can make positive changes in your life. I was trained how to listen effectively with out trying to change or fix you, and offer guidence without telling you what to do. I can offer you tools to help you to communicate effectively and get the results you want. I give encouragement and reminders to be kind to yourself and accept yourself just the way you are right now. It is from this place that you can choose to make positive life changes. you have all the answers inside of you. I can support you in remembering what you already know!
I have compassion, empathy and an understanding of how difficult and often painful life can be., having experienced similar feelings and circumstances of my own. As a Peer Counselor I can give you tools to cope with stressful situations, relationships, health issues, and mental/emotional feelings such as depression, and anxiety.
I practice a holistic approach to mental health, treating the whole person, mental, emotional and spiritual. I have incorporated the skills I have learned as a Peer Counselor and a health practioner in order to bring body, mind and spirit back into balance. Through the use of self inquiry, mindful and body awareness, working with sound and breath, meditation, visualization and journaling, I help you help yourself to get in touch with the essence of who you are. Choose to be happy and embrace a life of joy!
